The Dam today

Yesterday I posted a photo of our dam but the photo was actually taken 10 months ago. We had a deluge of rain one night and it broke the dam wall. This is a photo of our dam today taken 10 mins ago. As you can see the wall is fixed but we have been so hot here and little or no rain there is only a very small amount of water in the far right hand corner, just enough for the kangaroos and other wildlife to drink from. You can also see the amount of sand buildup throughout which was brought down the gully by that deluge of rain we had. So if any of you know a great rain dance, just let me know LOL... I want to go canoeing again.

My Dam

In good rainy times our dam can be a fun place to be, we have a couple of canoes etc. Although the dam is not very deep, about waist high, its perfect for recreation. The rope you can see across the top of photo is the 'flying fox' we have made for the grandkids to play on and to get from one side of dam to the other.

Beauty of Trees

It never ceases to amaze me on how beauty can be found anywhere even in the trunk of a tree. This gum tree, like so many others on our property, is shedding its grey bark and revealing a beautful red trunk underneath, this is a close up of a tree that appeared in my earlier post.

Chicks

Hope you enjoyed my photo of 'dad' yesterday, he is named dad as he has fathered many chicks over the years he has been with us. Here is a photo of his latest brood with their mum, they are 3 days old in this photo.

'Dad'

Apart from the usual wildlife we have roaming through the property I also have some pets of my own, you have already met Roscoe in my first post and now I will introduce you to 'dad' my peacock. He freely roams here and doesn't stray. Here he is displaying his proud plumage as it was mating season, after mating season they lose all their plumage and then a few months later start growing them again for the next mating season which is only once per year.

Trees with Character

As I said yesterday we are clearing a lot of dead wood out from amongst the trees/bush. We have a lot of huge trees that have fallen and some are so impressive we are leaving the really big ones where they fell. By impressive I mean have character, like this one. This is the root system of a huge tree.
